Writing Center Tutor

Position⠀Summary:

Writing⠀Center⠀tutors⠀work with⠀our⠀undergraduate⠀and⠀graduate⠀students⠀on their⠀written⠀work for⠀classes,⠀personal⠀statements,⠀dissertations,⠀etc.⠀Rather⠀than⠀acting as⠀editors or⠀proofreaders,⠀they⠀engage⠀with⠀students⠀in order⠀to help⠀them⠀discover⠀their own⠀voices,⠀understand⠀and⠀develop⠀their⠀central⠀arguments,⠀and⠀improve⠀their⠀clarity⠀and⠀grammar.⠀Our tutors⠀may also⠀work with⠀students⠀on skills⠀in reading⠀and oral⠀presentation.

Essential⠀Functions:

Works⠀with⠀students⠀in a⠀collaborative⠀manner on⠀writing⠀issues⠀like⠀brainstorming,⠀developing⠀ideas and⠀arguments,⠀supporting⠀and⠀structuring⠀essays,⠀and⠀revision.⠀Understands⠀or is⠀eager to⠀learn⠀writing⠀center⠀Best⠀Practices.⠀May work⠀with⠀students⠀on essays,⠀personal⠀statements,⠀dissertations,⠀and⠀etc.

Additional⠀Functions:

Supports⠀the work⠀of the⠀writing⠀center⠀through⠀outreach⠀and⠀creating⠀materials.⠀May work⠀with⠀students⠀on oral⠀presentations,⠀research,⠀and⠀related⠀issues.

Prerequisite⠀Qualifications:

This⠀is an⠀hourly⠀part-time⠀position.⠀Successful⠀applicants⠀should⠀have or be⠀working on⠀a⠀Master’s⠀degree in⠀a related⠀field.⠀Classroom⠀experience⠀or⠀previous⠀writing⠀center⠀experience⠀is⠀preferred.
