The Student Athletics Director is responsible for developing, administering, and supervising the intercollegiate athletic program at the City College of New York. This includes overseeing athletic facilities, budgets, personnel, and various functions related to the recruitment and development of student athletes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Athletic Program Management:

    • Develop and manage the College’s intercollegiate athletic program.
    • Ensure the maintenance and safety of athletic facilities and equipment.
    • Create and enforce safety protocols for participants.
  • Budgeting and Compliance:

    • Create and manage the athletic department's budget.
    • Ensure compliance with NCAA rules and CUNY Athletics Conference regulations.
  • Recruitment and Training:

    • Oversee the recruitment of student athletes and ensure their eligibility.
    • Coordinate the Academic Support Program for Athletes.
  • Collaboration and Community Engagement:

    • Partner with various departments (e.g., Counseling, Health Services) to integrate sports into the holistic health initiatives.
    • Design and manage an intramural sports program to foster student participation.
  • Leadership and Inclusivity:

    • Foster a culture of inclusivity and sportsmanship within athletic programs.
    • Promote diversity in all departmental activities.
  • Strategic Planning and Reporting:

    • Develop and implement a strategic plan aligning with the college's goals.
    • Prepare and present reports for internal and external entities.
  • Fundraising and Alumni Relations:

    • Seek additional funding through various avenues, including sponsorships and grants.
    • Liaise with alumni associations and coordinate major fundraising events.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree required.
  • Experience: Eight years of related experience in athletics administration, compliance, or a similar field.
  • Skills:
    • Strong leadership and communication abilities.
    • Knowledge of NCAA regulations and intercollegiate athletics.
    • Budget management and strategic planning skills.
    • Experience promoting inclusivity and diversity within sports programs.
