Desert Botanical Garden is seeking an experienced and motivated Project and Operations Manager to lead the Fall and Spring butterfly exhibits. This role involves a comprehensive project, operational, and financial management, including planning, overseeing staff and volunteers, ensuring USDA APHIS compliance, and maintaining the health and safety of live animal stock.
Key Responsibilities:
- Budget Management: Develop and manage exhibit budgets, track expenses, and report on budget performance.
- Staff and Volunteer Leadership: Oversee recruitment, training, scheduling, and performance of exhibit staff and volunteers; provide regular feedback and recognition.
- Exhibit Development and Training: Collaborate with the Senior Director of Exhibits to create seasonal training programs and conduct sessions to enhance visitor experience.
- USDA Compliance: Ensure adherence to USDA APHIS regulations for plant and animal security, manage permits, and compile annual reports.
- Animal Care: Maintain health and well-being of live animals, secure food sources, and manage live inventory plans.
- Collaboration with Horticulture: Communicate with the Horticulture team to meet plant needs and address maintenance issues.
- Data Management and Reporting: Track attendance, prepare reports, and analyze visitor trends to support future planning.
- Communication and Outreach: Update staff and volunteers, facilitate media interactions, and organize special sessions.
- Exhibit Maintenance and Development: Contribute to program development, exhibit evaluation, and interdepartmental collaboration.
- Safety and Facilities: Monitor work orders and ensure safety protocols and repairs are maintained.
- Signage and Supplies: Create temporary signage, manage supply inventory, and maintain department resources.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or four years of relevant experience.
- Experience: Supervisory or management experience, ideally in project or exhibit management.
- Skills:
- Strong interpersonal, customer service, and decision-making abilities.
- Team leadership and volunteer management.
- Effective time management, organization, and problem-solving.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Suite.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and stand for long periods.
- Other: Background check and fingerprint clearance required.
Work Environment:
- Primarily office-based, with periodic work in the butterfly pavilion.
- Manual dexterity and ability to lift up to 10 pounds.
- Occasional outdoor work in extreme temperatures.
