The Senior⠀Director⠀of⠀Employee⠀Engagement⠀and⠀Inclusion⠀is⠀responsible⠀for⠀leading⠀the design⠀and⠀execution⠀of⠀programs⠀that⠀attract,⠀develop,⠀and retain⠀a⠀dedicated⠀and⠀diverse⠀workforce.⠀Leading⠀all⠀aspects of⠀the full⠀employment⠀life⠀cycle, the⠀main⠀purpose of⠀this⠀position⠀is to⠀promote an⠀inclusive⠀work⠀environment⠀experience⠀that⠀champions⠀internal⠀mobility,⠀professional⠀and⠀leadership⠀development,⠀diversity,⠀equity,⠀belonging⠀and⠀employee⠀engagement.⠀This role⠀will act⠀as the SVP⠀and Chief⠀People⠀Officer’s⠀deputy,⠀providing⠀a main⠀point of⠀contact⠀for⠀managers⠀in⠀identifying⠀unit-/department-specific⠀needs and⠀will work⠀closely⠀and⠀collegially⠀with HR⠀colleagues⠀to deliver⠀innovative⠀HR⠀solutions⠀at both⠀the local⠀and⠀institutional⠀level.

Core Responsibilities include:
  • Lead the⠀newly⠀created⠀Client⠀Services⠀function,⠀hiring and⠀supervising⠀two new HR⠀Business⠀Partner⠀positions⠀and⠀setting⠀the tone⠀and⠀direction⠀for⠀supporting⠀managers⠀and⠀department-specific⠀HR needs,⠀employee⠀success⠀and⠀inclusion⠀goals.⠀Balance⠀organizational⠀priorities⠀with⠀employee⠀concerns⠀to ensure⠀that both⠀have a⠀voice and⠀that⠀objectives⠀are met⠀with⠀fairness.
  • Provide⠀mentorship⠀and advice⠀to senior⠀managers,⠀their⠀management⠀teams, and⠀HR⠀Business⠀partners⠀on⠀strategic⠀solutions⠀to further⠀unit⠀goals.⠀Provide⠀guidance⠀to these⠀colleagues⠀on⠀critical⠀employee⠀relations⠀matters,⠀performance⠀management⠀programs⠀and⠀compensation⠀needs.⠀Confer⠀with HR⠀Labor/EEO⠀colleagues⠀as⠀appropriate⠀to⠀maintain⠀compliance⠀with⠀policies;⠀federal,⠀state, and⠀local⠀regulations;⠀and⠀applicable⠀union⠀contracts.
  • Provide⠀day-to-day⠀guidance⠀and work⠀closely⠀with the⠀Talent⠀Acquisition⠀Associate⠀Director,⠀responsible⠀for⠀sourcing,⠀orienting⠀and⠀assimilating⠀new⠀employees⠀to the⠀museum.⠀Establish⠀and track⠀metrics⠀for⠀success in⠀alignment⠀with⠀AMNH’s⠀business⠀and DEI⠀objectives.
  • Assess⠀and⠀prioritize⠀institutional⠀training,⠀development,⠀and⠀engagement/inclusion⠀needs;⠀prepare a⠀business⠀rationale⠀to request⠀funding;⠀establish⠀metrics⠀for⠀success;⠀and lead⠀the⠀development⠀of a unit⠀plan to⠀integrate⠀into the⠀HR⠀plan.
  • Create⠀organizational⠀capability⠀and depth⠀by⠀introducing⠀training⠀and⠀engagement⠀experiences⠀that⠀strengthen⠀leadership⠀development;⠀organizational⠀design;⠀talent⠀identification⠀and⠀leadership⠀planning;⠀career/professional⠀skill⠀building;⠀employee⠀recognition;⠀and⠀diversity,⠀equity and⠀inclusion.⠀In⠀alignment⠀with⠀organizational⠀objectives,⠀build upon⠀existing⠀HR-DEI⠀plan by⠀recommending⠀and⠀implementing⠀engagement⠀and⠀learning⠀opportunities⠀beyond⠀formal⠀training,⠀such as⠀Employee⠀Resource⠀Groups,⠀panel⠀discussions,⠀career⠀events,⠀mentorship⠀programs,⠀etc.
  • Implement⠀climate/engagement⠀focus⠀groups and⠀surveys⠀and exit⠀surveys to⠀assess and⠀maintain a⠀pulse of⠀climate.⠀Work with⠀HR peers,⠀direct⠀reports,⠀and line⠀managers⠀to develop⠀plans of⠀continual⠀improvement⠀to address⠀gaps.
  • Facilitate⠀change⠀management⠀efforts⠀that⠀engage⠀employees⠀across the⠀museum,⠀which may⠀include⠀communication⠀forums,⠀lunch and⠀learns,⠀recognition⠀programs,⠀career⠀mobility⠀events and⠀other⠀strategies⠀to further⠀institutional⠀goals.

Required Qualifications
  • At least⠀10-15⠀years in⠀the field⠀of Human⠀Resources,⠀5 of which⠀include⠀leading⠀people.
  • Design⠀and⠀execution⠀of HR⠀initiatives⠀including⠀employee⠀education⠀and⠀leadership⠀development,⠀organizational⠀design,⠀cultural⠀change,⠀and/or⠀diversity,⠀equity and⠀inclusion.
  • Shown⠀success⠀facilitating⠀large-scale⠀institutional⠀change⠀efforts.
  • Experience⠀operating⠀as an HR⠀generalist/business⠀partner⠀(or⠀comparable⠀role)⠀providing⠀advice and⠀counsel to⠀managers.
  • Deep⠀knowledge⠀and acumen⠀of⠀organizational⠀development⠀and⠀learning⠀standard⠀methodologies.
  • Success⠀implementing⠀measurable⠀diversity,⠀equity and⠀inclusion⠀initiatives⠀that⠀enhance⠀the⠀climate.
  • Experience⠀designing⠀and⠀successfully⠀implementing⠀leadership⠀and⠀professional⠀development⠀curricula.
  • Proven⠀knowledge⠀of, and⠀experience⠀in, an HR⠀best-practice⠀organization.
  • Knowledge⠀of⠀employment⠀laws and⠀regulations.
  • Proficiency⠀in⠀Microsoft⠀Office.
  • College⠀Degree.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced⠀degree/HR⠀certification⠀in⠀field.
  • Work⠀experience⠀at a⠀higher⠀education⠀institution⠀or large⠀not-for-profit⠀organization.
  • Experience⠀working in⠀a⠀unionized⠀environment⠀and⠀knowledge⠀of labor⠀law.
