The⠀Senior⠀Advisor⠀reports to⠀the⠀Director⠀of⠀Advising⠀and Career⠀Development⠀in the⠀Office of⠀Student⠀Affairs⠀and⠀Wellbeing⠀and plays⠀a critical⠀role in⠀providing⠀the⠀academic⠀and career⠀development⠀guidance⠀and⠀support⠀that is⠀essential⠀to a⠀successful⠀medical⠀student⠀experience.⠀Oversees⠀and⠀directs⠀the⠀development⠀of the⠀student's⠀Individualized⠀Learning⠀Plan⠀(ILP),⠀Phase 3⠀Plan, and⠀preparation⠀for and⠀application⠀to⠀residency.

A day in the life of a
Senior Advisor at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
- Provide⠀individual⠀and group⠀advising⠀and career⠀development⠀services⠀to 75+⠀medical⠀students⠀including⠀medical⠀specialty⠀exploration,⠀residency⠀application,⠀goal⠀setting,⠀course⠀selection,⠀clerkship⠀scheduling,⠀academic⠀progress,⠀career⠀planning,⠀and⠀personal⠀advising.
- Meet⠀with⠀students⠀individually⠀on an⠀approximately⠀quarterly⠀basis to⠀assist⠀with⠀developing⠀each⠀student's⠀Individualized⠀Learning⠀Plan and⠀Phase 3⠀Plan.
- Serve⠀as the⠀main point⠀of contact⠀for⠀referring⠀medical⠀students⠀to⠀additional⠀academic,⠀career and⠀personal⠀support⠀resources⠀from the⠀School of⠀Medicine,⠀the⠀Hackensack⠀Meridian⠀Health⠀Network,⠀and⠀community,⠀as⠀needed.
- Develop,⠀plan, and⠀lead⠀workshops⠀and⠀seminars⠀on⠀relevant⠀career⠀advising⠀topics.
- Complete⠀appropriate⠀and timely⠀record⠀keeping/tracking⠀of⠀caseload,⠀student⠀meetings,⠀and⠀responses⠀to⠀student,⠀faculty⠀and staff⠀questions.
- Serve⠀as primary⠀contact⠀for all⠀faculty,⠀clerkship⠀director,⠀and small⠀group⠀facilitator⠀reporting⠀concerns⠀about⠀students.
- Plan⠀and carry⠀out⠀departmental⠀projects⠀as⠀assigned⠀by the⠀Director⠀of⠀Advising⠀and Career⠀Development⠀including:⠀training⠀Specialty⠀Mentors in⠀advising⠀and⠀mentoring⠀skills,⠀oversight⠀of⠀departmental⠀programs,⠀faculty⠀development;⠀working⠀with⠀Specialty⠀Interest⠀Groups,⠀presenting⠀programs⠀during⠀orientation,⠀and⠀preparing⠀and⠀reviewing⠀reports.
- Research,⠀identify,⠀and stay⠀up-to-date⠀on⠀resources,⠀best⠀practices⠀and future⠀trends in⠀order to⠀continuously⠀improve⠀offerings⠀to⠀students.
- Serve⠀on various⠀committees⠀within the⠀School of⠀Medicine⠀including⠀participation⠀in Quality⠀Improvement⠀Projects⠀aimed at⠀curriculum⠀development.
- Organize⠀and input⠀pertinent⠀information⠀into⠀constituent⠀management⠀software.
- Prepare⠀and manage⠀training⠀materials;⠀communicate⠀with⠀internal/external⠀trainers,⠀volunteers,⠀and⠀attendees⠀regarding⠀training⠀sessions⠀and/or⠀meetings;⠀document⠀and⠀distribute⠀evaluation⠀materials.
- Other⠀duties⠀and/or⠀projects⠀as⠀assigned.
- Adheres⠀to HMH⠀Organizational⠀competencies⠀and⠀standards⠀of⠀behavior.
- Requires⠀several⠀hours of⠀evening⠀availability⠀each week,⠀to be⠀scheduled⠀in⠀consultation⠀with the⠀Director.
Qualifications:
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Master's⠀degree in⠀Student⠀Counseling,⠀College⠀Student⠀Personnel,⠀Psychology,⠀Social⠀Work,⠀Education,⠀Higher⠀Education⠀Administration,⠀or a⠀related⠀field.
- Minimum⠀of 3 years⠀of⠀relevant⠀work⠀experience⠀providing⠀full-time⠀advising⠀or career⠀development⠀services⠀in a⠀University/College⠀setting.
- Ability⠀to⠀demonstrate⠀exceptional⠀skills in⠀coordinating⠀and⠀working⠀collaboratively⠀with⠀diverse⠀groups to⠀achieve⠀complex⠀objectives.
- Ability⠀to⠀develop,⠀manage and⠀carry out⠀projects⠀with⠀minimal⠀supervision,⠀utilizing⠀best⠀practices.
- Exceptional⠀oral and⠀written⠀communication⠀skills.
- Must⠀possess a⠀demonstrated⠀ability to⠀manage,⠀organize,⠀and⠀prioritize⠀a workload⠀of diverse⠀tasks.
