Under the supervision of the Public Services Supervisor and in line with the Special Collections Research Center (SCRC) guidelines, the RSAA performs various library and administrative duties. This role involves staffing the SCRC circulation desk, managing materials use within the Reading Room, and supporting Center-wide activities. Additionally, the RSAA provides administrative assistance to the Director of Special Collections.

Responsibilities:

Reader Services Support:

  • Welcome and orient Special Collections classes, researchers, and visitors alongside the 2nd RSAA.
  • Register new researchers, assist with Aeon account setup, and explain usage guidelines for Special Collections materials.
  • Ensure accurate circulation of materials in the Reading Room, including tracking transactions, handling preservation needs, reshelving, and maintaining records.
  • Monitor circulation and visitor movement within public areas.
  • Fulfill remote PDF scan requests via LibAnswers.
  • Refer on-site and remote queries to the Reader Services Librarian or other staff as needed.
  • Serve as a backup for material paging duties.
  • Work evening shifts on Tuesdays and Wednesdays on a rotating basis.

Administrative Support:

  • Answer the main phone line and route mail accordingly.
  • Maintain relevant content on the Center’s website and the Library intranet.
  • Manage paper files, supplies, and office equipment for the Center.
  • Oversee applications, communications, and visit arrangements for Platzman Fellowship.
  • Support events held at SCRC by coordinating with event contacts, catering services, and room setup needs.
  • Provide administrative support for the SCRC Director, including document production, report compilation, and record-keeping.
  • Compile and maintain reader services statistics for the Center.

Qualifications:

Competencies:

  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to communicate effectively with clarity and tact.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex documentation.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Discretion in handling confidential information.
  • Flexibility and ability to handle multiple priorities.
  • Sound judgment and independent problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in position-related software applications or willingness to learn.

Education:

  • High School Diploma required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

Experience:

  • Previous experience in a public service role in a high-volume, customer-focused environment required.
  • Preferred experience in special collections, archives, or museum settings.
