Major Responsibilities:

  • Security Services:

    • Provide security with professionalism, fairness, and compassion, especially in challenging circumstances.
    • Maintain a professional, approachable, and service-oriented demeanor to instill confidence in patients, visitors, and team members.
    • Comply with and enforce safety and security rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Patrol & Inspections:

    • Perform interior and exterior patrols to ensure safety and security, including inspections for hazards, fire conditions, and contraband searches.
    • Conduct audits of Interim Life Safety Measures, and manage patient valuables.
    • Assist with traffic control, monitor visitors, and confront unauthorized persons for questioning.
  • Workplace Violence & Emergencies:

    • Prevent, respond to, and investigate workplace violence incidents, including combative patients or visitors.
    • Serve as a primary resource for de-escalation in crises.
    • Respond to emergency situations (e.g., lost children, fire, active threats) and physically intervene as needed.
    • Investigate incidents, complete accurate reports, and address complaints.
  • Collaboration & Communication:

    • Liaise with departments, local law enforcement, and first responders to ensure safety protocols.
    • Educate staff on security awareness and provide safety guidance.
    • Coordinate and monitor law enforcement prisoner guards to ensure policy compliance.
  • Training & Equipment Maintenance:

    • Maintain current training standards (e.g., radio communications, CPR, Taser use, clinical restraints).
    • Ensure uniform and equipment are in good condition.

License/Registration/Certification Required:

  • Security Officer Healthcare Certification (CHSO) issued by IAHSS (within 2 years of hire).
  • Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) Card or Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW) License.
  • Firearm Control Card (FCC) for Proprietary Personnel (within 90 days of hire).
  • Taser Certification (within 90 days of hire and periodically thereafter).

Education & Experience Required:

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED.
  • Experience:
    • At least 1 year of experience in security, public safety, or customer service, including handling emergent situations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Completion of the State of Illinois 40-hour armed course with semi-automatic pistol endorsement.
  • Ability to carry a department-authorized firearm.
  • Ability to pass the State of IL Annual Handgun Qualification with a score of 70% or higher.
  • Strong judgment, communication skills, and ability to assess dangerous situations.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Word, Excel, and navigating web pages.
  • Ability to interact with individuals under difficult circumstances, including verbal confrontations.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, and drive throughout the workday.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 lbs. and push/pull with 35 lbs. of force.
  • Must have 20/20 vision (or corrected vision) and the ability to operate a firearm safely.
  • Must pass a background investigation, drug screen, and psychological screening.
