The Production Controller oversees the design, print, and electronic production processes for a portfolio of up to 15 scholarly journals. The role involves processing incoming manuscripts, graphic design tasks, monitoring production schedules, and maintaining quality and timeliness.
Key Responsibilities
- Journal Management:
- Coordinate the publication process for print, electronic, and e-book editions.
- Maintain production schedules, ensuring timeliness and journal quality.
- Graphic Design:
- Process and edit graphic files using Photoshop (e.g., combining graphs, color adjustments, and retouching).
- Support cover design updates for rotating journal covers and special projects like commemorative logos.
- Collaboration & Communication:
- Work closely with editorial offices, authors, vendors, and internal departments.
- Participate in weekly meetings and contribute to process improvement discussions.
- Problem-Solving:
- Address and resolve delays, errors, or quality issues in production.
- Additional Duties:
- Support production from manuscript editing to final publication.
- Assist with special design and departmental projects as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education:
- Vocational training or equivalent experience. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Experience:
- 2-5 years of related experience (e.g., publishing, production, or design).
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator).
- Familiarity with Excel, Word, Acrobat Professional, and basic HTML.
- Skills:
- Knowledge of design principles and typography.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
