The Purchasing Manager is responsible for overseeing the procurement and vendor management for our steel foundry and machine shop operations. This role involves sourcing materials, managing supplier relationships, and ensuring the efficient delivery of high-quality products. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in supply chain management within the steel or metal foundry industry, with a strong background in logistics, negotiation, and a solid understanding of steel manufacturing processes.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement procurement strategies that cater to the specific requirements of a steel foundry and machine shop, ensuring the optimal sourcing of raw materials.
  • Identify, evaluate, and build strong relationships with both domestic and international suppliers, sub-vendors, and service providers.
  • Negotiate terms and agreements with suppliers and sub-vendors to secure quality materials and services at favorable terms, ensuring timely deliveries.
  • Conduct market research and analysis to identify potential suppliers and support competitive bidding processes.
  • Monitor inventory levels and collaborate with production teams to forecast material requirements, preventing shortages or excess stock.
  • Implement cost-saving initiatives while maintaining material quality, including supplier audits and performance evaluations.
  • Ensure that procurement activities adhere to industry regulations, material specifications, and safety standards.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to align technical requirements with procurement efforts.
  • Manage import/export documentation and customs clearance for international materials.
  • Utilize ERP systems for order tracking, supplier performance management, and to streamline procurement processes.
  • Conduct supplier performance reviews, driving continuous improvement and addressing discrepancies.
  • Prepare and analyze procurement reports to provide insights into trends, challenges, and opportunities for senior management.
  • Ensure vendor compliance with ISO and other relevant standards, conducting regular performance and quality reviews.
  • Identify and mitigate risks related to supply chain disruptions, material shortages, and price volatility.
  • Develop contingency plans for critical supply chain issues and material shortages.
  • Lead and mentor the procurement team, setting clear goals, providing feedback, and fostering professional development.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or a related field; a Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Minimum 5 years of procurement experience within the steel or metal foundry industry.
  • Professional certifications such as Certified Purchasing Professional (CPP) or Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) are highly desirable.
  • Proven track record in negotiation strategies that lead to cost savings and improved supplier relationships.
  • Familiarity with INCO terms and key import/export regulations.
  • Experience with ERP systems related to manufacturing and inventory management is essential.
  • Fluency in English is required; proficiency in additional languages is a plus.
  • Strong analytical skills to assess market trends and supplier performance, turning data into actionable strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with internal and external stakeholders effectively.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple projects with resilience and adaptability.
  • A proactive mindset, with a focus on problem-solving and enhancing procurement processes.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or a related field (Master’s degree is a plus).
