The Procedure Technician provides essential support services to healthcare professionals by ensuring the smooth operation of daily activities within the department. This includes preparing exam and procedure rooms, assisting healthcare providers during patient exams and procedures, and ensuring patient comfort and safety. The Procedure Technician plays a critical role in facilitating patient flow, maintaining cleanliness and sterilization of equipment, and supporting the overall operational efficiency of the department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Patient Care & Support:

    • Assist in preparing patients for exams or procedures, following departmental protocols and instructions from nurses and physicians.
    • Provide comfort and safety to patients throughout the treatment or procedure process, adhering to age-specific guidelines and "patients first" principles.
    • Participate in lifting, escorting, and assisting with patient movement throughout the department.
  • Procedure Room Preparation:

    • Set up exam/procedure rooms prior to patient arrival, ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are available.
    • Assist with cleaning and disinfecting equipment and sterilizing accessories, following infection control protocols.
    • Ensure timely turnover of rooms between procedures to optimize patient flow.
  • Clinical Support:

    • Help with patient exams and procedures, including specimen collection as directed by nurses and physicians.
    • Verify patient demographic and medical information for accuracy before procedures.
    • Assist in patient discharge and ensure all required paperwork is completed.
  • Supply & Equipment Management:

    • Maintain and stock procedure rooms with necessary supplies, ensuring timely reordering and proper rotation of items.
    • Clean and disinfect endoscopic equipment and other tools used during procedures.
    • Report any equipment malfunctions to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Administrative & Clerical Support:

    • Assist with organizing and prioritizing work assignments, ensuring that all duties are completed in a timely manner.
    • Provide clerical support as needed to ensure efficient department operations, including scheduling and paperwork management.

Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma with strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, and patients in a professional medical setting.
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Basic knowledge of infection control practices in a hospital environment.
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs.
  • Basic computer skills.

Preferred:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences.
  • Previous experience in a patient care environment.
  • Bilingual language skills.
  • Experience with modality-specific procedures.
  • Completion of SGNA Associates Program – part I.
