To inspire and lead a community in providing transformative health, education, and financial stability for all generations by collaborating with donors, partners, and volunteers.

Overview:
The United Way of St. Johns County, a respected and influential leader in the region since 1957, is seeking an accomplished and dynamic President/CEO. This executive will provide visionary leadership to drive community impact, mobilize resources, and steward the United Way brand. The President/CEO will work closely with the Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, and community leaders to advance the mission of the organization and ensure the delivery of high-quality services across the spectrum of human needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Community Impact:

    • Lead the organization’s efforts to enhance its impact on the community, focusing on health, education, and financial stability.
    • Collaborate with the Board to develop and adapt strategies that increase the organization’s capacity to drive meaningful change.
    • Establish and maintain relationships with key community leaders across business, government, and nonprofit sectors.
  • Resource Development:

    • Drive fundraising efforts, including the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of prospective donors and corporate partners.
    • Promote a culture of philanthropy within the organization, engaging both staff and board members in fundraising activities.
    • Leverage personal and professional networks to create new fundraising opportunities.
  • Strategic Management:

    • Serve as the principal resource to the Board of Directors, providing direction in policy formulation and strategic planning.
    • Partner with the Board and staff to set organizational goals and develop strategies to achieve them.
    • Ensure alignment of all United Way activities with the strategic direction in areas such as community impact and resource development.
  • Organizational Management:

    • Build and lead high-performing teams, ensuring collaboration and alignment to achieve organizational results.
    • Maintain accountability for the operational and fiscal integrity of the organization, working closely with the Chief Financial Officer to manage spending and mitigate financial risks.
    • Supervise Senior Leadership positions and set individual goals to drive performance.
    • Ensure the organization’s commitment to inclusiveness and diversity among staff and volunteers is met.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Education:

    • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year accredited college or university.
    • Continuous learning experiences over ten or more years in strategic and organizational leadership, management, fundraising, and related areas.
  • Experience:

    • Executive-level expertise in leadership and operations, with a focus on high energy, performance, and team spirit.
    • Substantial experience in the nonprofit sector, preferably with United Way, or in leadership roles in organizations of comparable size and mission.
    • Proven ability to build relationships with community leaders and command the confidence of stakeholders.
    • Demonstrated success in promoting diversity and fostering collaboration within the community.
    • Experience in revenue building, increasing philanthropic support, and managing organizations across multiple sectors, including nonprofit, public, and corporate environments.
  • Skills:

    • Strong business acumen, with the ability to generate financial support and manage organizational resources effectively.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • High levels of intelligence, curiosity, and a willingness to explore new ideas and innovative approaches.
    • Unquestioned integrity, a long-term perspective, and a practical ability to get things done.
