The Paralegal Intern position is a one-year fixed-term opportunity with potential for advancement into a Paralegal I position. This role supports paralegals and attorneys in the Investment Funds Group, offering hands-on legal experience and training to individuals interested in a paralegal career path. After successfully completing the program and meeting performance metrics, candidates will have the opportunity to apply for a Paralegal I position.
Key Responsibilities
- Training & Skill Development: Attend training sessions, complete assessments, and meet developmental milestones in legal skills and technology.
- Document Preparation & Filing:
- Prepare and file formation, tax, and securities documents, including SEC filings such as Form ID, Form D, Blue Sky filings, and Form ADV.
- Assist with filing Form 13F and Form 13H with the SEC, and prepare confidential client documents for SEC exams.
- Legal & Administrative Support:
- Assist with pre-closing, closing, and post-closing activities.
- Provide administrative support, including proofreading, duplicating, and scanning documents, and maintaining spreadsheets and reports.
- Perform clerical tasks like making copies, creating folder labels, and preparing packages.
- Database & Document Management:
- Perform searches and manage databases in accordance with firm standards.
- Organize legal documents using internal and external systems, ensuring confidentiality.
- Work Environment & Communication:
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ensure compliance with firm policies and operations.
- Manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a high-pressure, deadline-driven environment.
- Overtime & Flexibility:
- Be prepared for occasional overtime, which may include weekends or holidays, depending on workload.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree required.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, and familiarity with Document Management Systems.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Experience: Ability to handle sensitive matters and maintain confidentiality, eagerness to learn new skills, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Work Environment: Ability to work in a professional office setting, handling high-pressure situations and managing multiple deadlines.
