The Paralegal position with the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) focuses on ensuring legal compliance, assisting in legal document preparation, and conducting legal research to support the Office of Legal Services. This role involves leadership among supportive staff and assisting attorneys with various tasks related to legal documents, compliance, and special projects.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Compliance Support: Ensure agency adherence to the Freedom of Information Act and Employees Ethics Act.
  • Document Preparation: Draft and prepare legal documents under the guidance of a licensed attorney, including pleadings, memoranda, and correspondence.
  • Legal Research: Conduct legal research and obtain materials as requested by staff attorneys from internal departments, state agencies, or third parties.
  • Leadership Support: Provide leadership to the support staff, improving unit operations' efficiency.
  • Special Projects: Assist with special reports and projects as required.
  • Document Management: Manage physical or electronic documents and maintain a well-organized system.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other related duties as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Completion of four years of college, with coursework in legal studies, pre-legal, English, or related fields.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience:
    • 2 years as a paralegal or administrative assistant.
    • 2 years of experience with document management systems (physical or electronic).
    • 1 year drafting legal documents (pleadings, memoranda, etc.).
    • 2 years of experience using Microsoft Office programs.
    • 2 years of experience serving as a liaison in a professional environment.

Work Schedule and Location:

  • Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM
