The Law Office of Tiffany M. Hughes, specializing in family law, is seeking an experienced Legal Assistant to provide high-level support in family law matters. This role is designed for a detail-oriented, highly skilled professional who is familiar with Illinois court procedures and proficient in preparing attorneys for trials or hearings.

Responsibilities:

  • Case Management: Conduct intake, analyze facts, organize, and prepare case files for attorneys’ review in family law cases.
  • Document Preparation: Assist in drafting and reviewing legal documents related to family law matters, including disclosure statements and discovery.
  • Record Management: Scan, record, and store client information in a paperless office.
  • Financial Data: Prepare Excel spreadsheets summarizing financial case data.
  • Court Preparation: Prepare files for court, including docketing, and assist with trial, hearings, and mediation preparation.
  • Scheduling and Deadline Management: Ensure attorneys are on schedule with case deadlines, court dates, and mediation appointments.
  • Client Assistance: Answer phones, assist clients, and file court documents when necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Previous experience as a Legal Assistant in family law litigation, particularly in preparation for trial or hearings.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in Mac (Macintosh OS) environment.
    • Expertise in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
    • Familiarity with Clio billing software is a plus.
    • Experience with FinPlan is a plus.
  • Court Knowledge: Familiarity with family law court systems and procedures in Cook, Kane, Lake, DuPage, and Will County.
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to prioritize, streamline processes, and manage multiple tasks with impeccable attention to detail.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to draft and proof legal documents effectively.
  • Work Ethic: Strong work ethic, with excellent follow-up and follow-through.

Skills:

  • Advanced typing, proofing, and communication skills.
  • Superior client service skills.
  • Ability to take ownership of a file and manage it effectively from start to finish.

Other Requirements:

  • Location: Local candidates only (must be familiar with Illinois court procedures).
  • Technology: Proficiency with Macintosh OS is essential.
