Key Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Farm Management

    • Operate and maintain a tractor and other farming machinery.
    • Develop plot maps, crop plans, and harvest logs with farmers.
    • Maintain irrigation systems, install flood irrigation as needed, and ensure water delivery.
    • Assist with cultivating a ¼ acre for program-specific activities.
  2. Training and Coaching

    • Facilitate monthly farmer meetings and workshops.
    • Provide coaching and technical assistance on growing practices.
    • Assist in creating and conducting training programs for apprentices and incubator farmers.
    • Guide new farmers on Space policies and practices.
  3. Administrative Duties

    • Track and collect fee payments from farmers.
    • Maintain records, including equipment maintenance logs and reports related to farming operations.
    • Assist with curriculum development for urban farming skills.
    • Support annual grower assessments.
  4. Collaboration and Communication

    • Coordinate with Market Manager to align produce with market demands.
    • Maintain communication with community partners and on-site farmers using multiple platforms (e.g., WhatsApp, email).
    • Work with diverse, multi-national groups and foster a collaborative environment.
  5. Maintenance and Safety

    • Ensure safe operation and maintenance of farm equipment.
    • Perform general upkeep of farm paths, mulch spreading, and weed management.
    • Troubleshoot issues on-site and report concerns to leadership.

Qualifications

  • Experience:
    • Minimum two years of farm management, including crop planning and flood irrigation.
    • At least 500 hours of tractor operation and maintenance.
  • Skills:
    • Knowledge of organic soil amendments and sustainable farming practices.
    • Leadership abilities to inspire and guide farmers.
    • Communication skills, including proficiency with Word, Excel, and Google tools.
  • Education: Preferred training or degree in agriculture or related field.
  • Language: Bi-lingual highly preferred.


Working Conditions

  • Outdoor work with exposure to extreme heat and various physical demands.
  • Ability to walk, stand, stoop, bend, and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity.
