Role Summary: iSeries System Administrator

This role provides IT support for ITT’s hosted data center services, with a focus on managing and maintaining iSeries applications and business services. Reporting to the Manager of IT Enterprise Infrastructure Services, you will ensure the reliability, security, and continuous availability of the IBM iSeries environment, with an emphasis on automation, troubleshooting, and operational support.

Key Responsibilities

• Job and System Management:

  • Oversee and troubleshoot job scheduling in the Robot suite.
  • Identify and resolve job failures, optimize jobs, and implement automation for efficiency.
  • Work with application owners to prevent job failures and implement self-healing scripts to maintain operations.

• System and Application Administration:

  • Administer the IBM iSeries OS, management tools, and relevant software.
  • Manage tasks such as profile creation, ERP role assignment, and environment monitoring.
  • Ensure security compliance and participate in disaster recovery planning and testing.

• Documentation and Support:

  • Maintain system documentation, create operational procedures, and provide system programming support.
  • Support applications and hardware including system performance, firmware, faxing solutions, printer administration, digital certificates, and security software.

Essential Responsibilities

• Technical Proficiency:

  • Administer iSeries system components, including capacity planning, firmware updates, and security compliance.
  • Ensure operational efficiency by maintaining system utilities, performance tuning, and configuration settings.
  • Support third-party applications like HelpSystems (Robot/Schedule, Console, Network, and Alert).
  • Collaborate on IT policies, identify improvement areas, and provide technical support across departments.

• Customer Service and Collaboration:

  • Build and maintain relationships by providing clear communication and efficient problem resolution.
  • Actively engage in business discussions, sharing input on data protection, infrastructure security, and IT enhancements.
  • Demonstrate accountability, initiative, and pride in delivering quality work.

Key Qualifications

• Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Sciences, or related field, or 5-8 years of relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in IBM iSeries OS (V7R3, V7R1, V6R1, V5R4) with experience in RPG and Control Language scripting.

• Technical Skills:

  • Familiarity with automation, monitoring tools, and HelpSystems applications (Robot/Schedule, Console, Network, Alert).
  • Experience with data protection discussions, security standards, and performance troubleshooting.

• Soft Skills:

  • Strong written, oral, and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-directed and organized with excellent attention to detail.
  • Collaborative team player with analytical and problem-solving abilities.
