We are looking for a Human Resources Specialist to join our Human Resources department in the Chicago office. This individual will serve as the primary resource for Business Services HR matters, including onboarding, offboarding, integration, leave of absence management, accommodations, retention, and diversity initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide daily HR support for Business Services staff, collaborating with the HR Manager and leadership to enhance staff development, engagement, and morale.
  • Oversee and manage new hire onboarding, including communications with new hires, coordination with internal departments (Benefits, Payroll, IT, Facilities), and HR orientation sessions.
  • Administer the 30- and 60-day Feedback Process to assist with new hire integration.
  • Facilitate the departure process, including conducting exit interviews, processing separation forms, and collecting firm-issued equipment.
  • Manage the FMLA/medical leave process and handle workers’ compensation and accommodation requests in coordination with third-party administrators and Benefits.
  • Collaborate with external vendors for the timely processing of unemployment claims.
  • Assist with the annual evaluation process and provide system support and feedback collection.
  • Process updates in PeopleSoft related to new hires, status changes, separations, office transfers, and more, in collaboration with Payroll.
  • Coordinate employee events and retirement activities in partnership with leadership.
  • Provide support for HR training sessions, office events, and other activities as needed.
  • Perform additional duties to help the firm meet its goals.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • At least 3 years of progressive HR experience, preferably in a law firm or professional services environment.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with PeopleSoft and onboarding platforms.
  • Experience with virtual platforms like Microsoft Teams, WebEx, and Zoom.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work in a diverse team and meet the needs of the firm under pressure with shifting priorities.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills, with attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive matters with discretion.
  • A proactive self-starter with excellent customer service skills and independent judgment.
