The Equipment Services Technician at Lurie Children’s Hospital is responsible for the distribution, maintenance, and inventory management of medical equipment, beds, cleaning supplies, and other items essential for patient care across inpatient and emergency areas. This role is highly visible within the hospital, where customer service and sanitation are paramount to support infection control standards and high-quality patient care. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, work well in a team environment, and be proactive in solving issues and improving processes.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment and Supply Management
- Distribute and manage medical equipment, beds, and supplies for inpatient, emergency, and surgical departments.
- Clean all patient care medical equipment following infection control standards in the soiled utility area.
- Track and maintain equipment and supply inventory, including daily and monthly logs for infection control.
- Conduct routine floor sweeps to manage excess equipment and redistribute based on stock levels and patient needs.
Customer Service and Support
- Respond promptly to customer service requests and resolve issues at the first step where possible.
- Inform supervisors of any issues or requests that cannot be fulfilled.
- Provide equipment setup for nursing and clinical education as required.
- Maintain clean and organized work areas in compliance with hospital policies on safety and security.
Maintenance and Inventory
- Deliver broken equipment to Healthcare Technology Management (HTM) or Bed Storage for repair and retrieve repaired items.
- Arrange for bed/equipment rentals as requested by clinical staff to meet specific patient requirements.
- Collect recyclable/disposable supplies and distribute to appropriate departments.
Communication and Reporting
- Communicate with supervisors about significant activities and problems encountered.
- Participate in in-service training programs and maintain knowledge of safe lifting and materials handling techniques.
- Maintain accurate records of equipment distribution and inventory, particularly during tube system downtimes.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
- Skills:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks efficiently.
- Excellent customer service abilities and teamwork skills.
- Proficiency with data entry and comfort using technology.
- Ability to manage multiple requests in a fast-paced and high-stress environment.
- Physical Requirements: Knowledge of safe lifting and materials handling techniques for both manual and powered equipment.
