This internship role involves active participation in the engineering and administrative aspects of construction projects within the Special Projects Division (SPD) or other Business Unit departments. The intern will gain hands-on experience in project management, communication, coordination, and documentation, with exposure to field and office work.
Key Responsibilities
Documentation and Communication
- Assist in the review and processing of shop drawings, product data, and samples.
- Facilitate communication between project teams, including responses to Requests for Information (RFIs).
- Maintain and update contract documents, web-based systems, and project logs.
Change Management
- Help estimate changes in work and review subcontractor Change Order requests.
Project Coordination
- Study and analyze contract drawings, specifications, and shop drawings to ensure proper installation and coordination.
- Ensure materials and equipment are released for fabrication/manufacture per the construction schedule.
Close-Out Procedures
- Assist in preparing close-out documents, including Operations/Maintenance (OM) Manuals.
Support Activities
- Provide additional support across tasks and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- Education:
- Minimum of two years of college in Engineering, Construction, or related fields.
- Experience:
- Background in building construction or engineering is preferred.
- Skills:
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork abilities.
- Proficiency with computer applications, including the Microsoft Office suite.
- Basic knowledge of scheduling programs is a plus.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated initiative and eagerness to learn.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent use of a computer, including sitting and keyboarding.
- Vision requirements include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
- Regular mobility with occasional travel to construction sites.
- Must lift/move up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
Work Environment
- Office/Remote Setting: Quiet to moderate noise levels in office or remote environments.
- Construction Sites: Exposure to moving mechanical parts, elevated locations, weather conditions, and moderate to loud noise levels.
