The⠀Marketing⠀Department⠀of Arnold⠀& Porter⠀has an⠀immediate⠀opening⠀for a⠀Director⠀of⠀Business⠀Development⠀supporting⠀the⠀firm’s⠀corporate⠀and⠀transactional⠀practices,⠀including⠀but not⠀limited to⠀corporate⠀& finance,⠀tax, real⠀estate,⠀and⠀bankruptcy.⠀Reporting⠀to the⠀Chief⠀Business⠀Development⠀and⠀Marketing⠀Officer⠀(CBDMO),⠀the⠀Director⠀of⠀Business⠀Development⠀will be⠀based in⠀the⠀firm’s⠀New York⠀office and⠀will⠀maintain⠀primary⠀responsibility⠀for⠀strategic⠀direction⠀and⠀operational⠀support of⠀business⠀development⠀(BD)⠀activities⠀for the⠀firm’s⠀transactional⠀practice⠀groups.⠀Examples⠀of⠀specific⠀duties⠀include⠀the⠀development⠀and⠀execution⠀of⠀go-to-market⠀BD⠀campaigns,⠀oversight⠀of⠀assigned⠀industry/sector⠀initiatives,⠀new⠀business⠀generation⠀through⠀sponsorships/events⠀and the⠀creation⠀of⠀compelling⠀pitches⠀and RFP⠀responses,⠀development⠀of⠀effective⠀thought⠀leadership⠀initiatives,⠀and⠀management⠀of key⠀client⠀accounts,⠀among⠀various⠀other⠀activities.⠀Such⠀duties⠀will be⠀conducted⠀in⠀coordination⠀with the⠀CBDMO,⠀practice⠀group⠀chairs,⠀and other⠀key⠀stakeholders⠀of the⠀firm. The⠀Director⠀will⠀supervise⠀BD team⠀members⠀who are⠀assigned⠀to support⠀the⠀firm’s⠀transactional⠀practices⠀and will⠀work⠀closely⠀with⠀senior⠀management⠀in⠀Marketing⠀Communications⠀and other⠀function⠀areas⠀within the⠀marketing⠀and BD⠀department⠀to⠀implement⠀marketing⠀plans and⠀facilitate⠀BD⠀activities.⠀Exceptional⠀leadership,⠀communication,⠀and⠀management⠀skills are⠀a⠀requirement⠀for this⠀position.⠀Prior⠀legal⠀marketing/BD⠀experience⠀is greatly⠀preferred,⠀but not⠀required.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Directing⠀and⠀overseeing⠀firmwide⠀business⠀development⠀activities;⠀developing⠀and⠀leading⠀practice⠀group⠀business/marketing⠀plans,⠀identifying/targeting⠀specific⠀clients,⠀creating⠀client⠀presentations,⠀tracking⠀and⠀measuring⠀progress⠀towards⠀defined⠀KPIs.
  • Directing⠀and⠀overseeing⠀the⠀firm’s⠀pitches⠀and RFP⠀responses⠀for⠀appropriate⠀practice⠀groups or⠀designated⠀industry⠀groups,⠀including⠀lead⠀generation⠀from⠀target⠀companies/individuals⠀and⠀existing⠀clients,⠀and⠀developing⠀effective⠀and⠀visually⠀compelling⠀proposals⠀for new⠀business.
  • Facilitating⠀BD⠀training⠀and⠀coaching⠀for⠀prospective⠀client⠀meetings/presentations.
  • Overseeing⠀and⠀managing⠀key client⠀account⠀teams,⠀including⠀targeting,⠀organization,⠀and action⠀plans.
  • Coordinating⠀centralized⠀lists of⠀target⠀companies⠀developed⠀through⠀work with⠀the⠀practice⠀or⠀industry⠀group⠀marketing⠀and⠀business⠀plans.
  • Coordinating⠀a strategy⠀for⠀business⠀development⠀opportunities⠀associated⠀with the⠀integration⠀of new⠀lateral⠀partners.
  • Assisting⠀and⠀supporting⠀firm⠀involvement⠀in various⠀legal⠀networks;⠀including⠀coordinating⠀business⠀development⠀activities⠀via these⠀relationships.
  • Supervising⠀staff⠀performance,⠀providing⠀guidance⠀and⠀support to⠀ensure⠀maximum⠀effort,⠀enthusiasm,⠀and⠀results⠀from team⠀members.
  • Various⠀duties⠀assigned⠀by CBDMO.


Qualifications:

  • Prior⠀background⠀and⠀experience⠀in large⠀law firms⠀or other⠀relevant⠀professional⠀services⠀organizations⠀is⠀essential.
  • A⠀minimum of⠀12 years⠀of⠀experience⠀in⠀business⠀development/marketing⠀and strong⠀knowledge⠀of⠀transactional⠀practice⠀groups.
  • Bachelor’s⠀Degree⠀required.⠀Advanced⠀Degree a⠀plus.
  • Strong⠀analytical⠀skills⠀required.
  • Ability⠀to work⠀well under⠀the⠀pressure⠀of⠀deadlines.
  • Prior⠀supervisory⠀experience⠀and strong⠀writing⠀skills.
  • Ability⠀to make⠀sound⠀decisions⠀and⠀demonstrate⠀a high⠀degree of⠀trustworthiness⠀in⠀handling⠀confidential⠀and⠀sensitive⠀information.

The⠀anticipated⠀base⠀salary for⠀this⠀position⠀is⠀$200,000⠀to⠀$300,000.⠀The actual⠀base⠀salary⠀offered⠀will⠀depend on⠀a variety⠀of⠀factors,⠀including⠀without⠀limitation,⠀the⠀qualifications⠀of the⠀individual⠀applicant⠀for the⠀position,⠀years of⠀relevant⠀experience,⠀level of⠀education⠀attained,⠀certifications⠀or other⠀professional⠀licenses⠀held, and⠀if⠀applicable,⠀the⠀location⠀in which⠀the⠀applicant⠀lives⠀and/or⠀from which⠀they will⠀be⠀performing⠀the job.
