This position is responsible for fulfilling formatting document requests for the desktop publishing area. Activities include design, layout, formatting, and production of fThe Desktop Publisher is responsible for producing a variety of documents, including federal government reports, research briefs, questionnaires, proposals, grant applications, marketing materials, and more. This role requires adhering to federal and internal standards, ensuring compliance with Section 508 accessibility laws, and managing multiple concurrent projects with shifting priorities. The position also includes editing, proofreading, and formatting documents to meet customer specifications.
Responsibilities:
- Document & Presentation Development: Modify and maintain document templates primarily in Microsoft Office (Word and PowerPoint), and occasionally using Adobe Creative Suite.
- Proposal Formatting: Review RFP specifications and format documents according to these requirements, ensuring high-quality presentation.
- Exhibit Design: Enhance visuals such as exhibits, charts, and graphics based on the author’s vision and proposal requirements.
- Document Assembly & Production: Oversee the full document production process for proposals and projects, including final assembly and PDF production.
- Version Control: Establish and manage document version control for proposals and project assets.
- Business Development Support: Prepare materials for business development and marketing initiatives.
- Section 508 Compliance: Ensure documents are accessible and compliant with Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 guidelines for government posting, including working with tools like Commonlook PDF for document remediation.
- Other Duties: Perform additional tasks as assigned by leadership.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or a high school diploma with 5 years of relevant work experience.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in proposal/document production or desktop publishing.
- Software Proficiency: Advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat Pro, and a working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Excel, SharePoint, and Teams.
- Design Skills: Strong graphic design and page layout skills, including knowledge of color theory, visual hierarchy, and best practices, particularly within Microsoft Office applications.
- Proposal Process Understanding: Knowledge of the document development, assembly, printing, and production process.
- Section 508 Compliance: Familiarity with Section 508 laws and experience creating accessible documents. Experience with Commonlook PDF remediation is a plus.
- Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams.
- Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail and ability to follow creative direction.
Salary & Benefits:
The salary range for this position is between $54,000 and $82,000. As a regular staff member, you will be eligible for a comprehensive benefits package, including:
