This job description outlines the role of Deputy Executive Director for Sound Transit, focusing on operational readiness for the agency’s extensive capital project delivery. The position offers a salary range between $160,000 and $280,000, with new hires typically falling between $160,000 and $215,000, depending on experience, internal equity, and market conditions. Key Responsibilities:

  • Operational Oversight: Manage the integration of operational needs into Sound Transit’s capital programs, ensuring readiness at key milestones.
  • Leadership and Collaboration: Lead a team focused on ensuring new transit systems are ready for operation by working with various agency departments and external partners.
  • Project/Program Management: Ensure successful delivery of transit projects while meeting operational and maintenance requirements.
  • Budget and Staffing: Develop and manage capital budgets, forecasts, and resources, ensuring optimal use of staff and funds.

Essential Skills and Knowledge:

  • Deep understanding of transit operations, maintenance, capital project development, and asset planning.
  • Experience in managing large-scale public transit projects, particularly with light rail and bus rapid transit systems.
  • Expertise in total cost of ownership, life cycle analysis, and operational strategy in transit infrastructure.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in transportation, planning, engineering, public administration, or a related field.
  • Experience: 10 years in managing transit operations or capital projects, with at least 8 years in a leadership role.
