Data Center Tech

As a Data Center Technician, you will be responsible for various tasks in a fast-paced data center environment. Your primary duties will include rack installation, hardware maintenance, asset inventory management, and logistical support. You will work closely with internal teams to ensure smooth data center operations and participate in a career development pathway that leads to higher technical roles. This role involves executing small projects independently and collaborating with your manager on larger projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Rack Installation & Maintenance:

  • Install, remove, and address technical issues with hardware in data center racks, ensuring no disruption to critical infrastructure.
  • Perform tasks such as placing racks, cabling, powering up servers, and handing off servers to internal provisioning teams.

• Logistical & Operational Support:

  • Provide logistical support, including RMA processing, part transfers, shipping, and receiving of parts.
  • Escort white-glove deliveries and handle the scanning of racks and audits (e.g., parts, cycle counts).

• Asset Management & Documentation:

  • Maintain and update the asset inventory in the internal application.
  • Document activities and contribute to building and modifying standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Participate in audits of racks and parts to ensure proper inventory tracking.

• Project Execution & Career Development:

  • Execute small projects independently and assist with planning and execution of larger local projects.
  • Participate in training to develop new skills, particularly in server, storage, and network hardware.

• Onsite Support:

  • Be accessible via cell phone and available for emergency work as needed.
  • Address technical issues within the service level agreements (SLAs) assigned to your tasks.

Requirements

• Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs.

• Experience & Skills:

  • Knowledge of server/storage/network hardware preferred.
  • Previous experience in inventory management (ordering, receiving, shipping server parts) is beneficial.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to raise issues effectively to onsite staff and management.

• Interest & Development:

  • Strong interest in learning new data center concepts and technologies.
  • Willingness to participate in training programs to bridge skill gaps and expand knowledge.
