Role Overview:
As a Data Center Engineer, you will play a crucial role in optimizing and innovating the systems that power Google’s data centers. You will work across a variety of engineering challenges, from designing advanced control systems to implementing machine learning algorithms for system optimization. Your insights and recommendations will have a direct impact on how Google’s global infrastructure operates, ensuring that it remains efficient, environmentally sustainable, and scalable.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and optimize control systems and models for data center equipment and facilities.
- Utilize Machine Learning (ML) to create and improve algorithms for system optimization.
- Work with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration and optimization of systems.
- Develop operations and maintenance procedures to improve the performance and reliability of data center systems.
- Conduct engineering analysis and research to refine data center designs, including cooling, electrical systems, and structural concerns.
- Lead research and development efforts to define data center system architecture and drive long-term improvements.
- Ensure that designs and installations meet operational requirements, including cooling predictions and structural integrity.
- Provide technical leadership and support to various engineering teams to maintain Google’s infrastructure.
- Communicate your findings and recommendations to senior-level executives to influence strategic decisions.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 5+ years of experience designing and implementing control systems and controls modeling.
- Experience with Machine Learning (ML) and algorithm construction.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as C, Python, MATLAB, or Shell.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Science, or a related technical field.
- Experience with modeling/statistical software such as TensorFlow, Simulink, R, or MATLAB Machine Learning Toolbox.
- Knowledge of digital signal processing and time-series analysis.
- Experience with Optimization, Linear Programming, and Convex Optimization.
- Familiarity with dynamic system analysis, feedback control systems (e.g., PID Control), and optimal control.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of working with cross-functional teams (e.g., structural, civil, IT/Telecom, mechanical, architectural).
Salary and Compensation:
- Base Salary Range: $139,000 - $207,000 annually (depending on location and experience).
- Additional Benefits: Bonus, equity, and other company benefits.
- Location-Based Pay: Salary may vary depending on the chosen location, with specific pay ranges discussed during the hiring process.
