The Senior Data Assistant plays a critical role in the management and analysis of clinical trial data for the Clinical Trials Office (CTO) at Northwestern. This position ensures the accurate entry, maintenance, and reporting of clinical trial data, while working closely with internal and external teams to resolve issues and maintain data integrity. The role also involves creating and analyzing reports, providing support for various data management tasks, and ensuring compliance with protocols and timelines.
Identify and assess data needs for clinical trials.
Collaborate on data management projects including variable definitions and data storage solutions.
Obtain relevant training for electronic data capture systems and protocol-specific guidelines.
Abstract patient data from medical records and enter it into case report forms (paper or electronic).
Track progress and resolve data queries in collaboration with sponsors/CROs.
Data Administration:
Ensure data accuracy for subsequent analysis.
Provide regular updates and summaries of clinical trial data.
Assist with compliance issues and communicate concerns to study coordinators and principal investigators.
Assist with internal audits and contribute to the development of CTO policies and procedures related to data entry monitoring.
Development & Reporting:
Create reports, analyze data, and write queries.
Schedule and participate in monitor visits for assigned studies.
Maintain EMR access and resolve any issues identified during audits.
Run and distribute standard reports and maintain an inventory of reports.
Supervision & Mentoring:
Mentor and assist in the training of entry-level data assistants.
Miscellaneous:
Perform other duties as assigned by management.
High school diploma or equivalent required.
A minimum of 4 years of experience in data entry or similar roles.
Knowledge of medical terminology, critical thinking, and self-learning skills.
Bachelor’s degree in health sciences, social sciences, or a related field, or a combination of education and experience.
Experience in data management within the health field, particularly in cancer research and clinical trials.
Proficiency in cancer-related databases and clinical trial management software.
At least 1-2 years of experience in customer service and cancer research.
Strong communication skills (oral and written).
Ability to work independently and make sound decisions based on data.
Proficiency in computer software and familiarity with medical terminology.
Detail-oriented with strong organizational and analytical skills.
