Labcorp is seeking a Cytogenetics Technologist Trainee to join its Women’s Health and Genetics division in Seattle, WA. This role involves working in the Cytogenetics Department, which uses scientific techniques such as specimen culturing, slide preparation, and chromosome analysis. It’s an opportunity to contribute to Labcorp's mission of "Improving Health, Improving Lives."

Schedule:

  • Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
  • Rotating weekends
  • Some overtime may be required

Responsibilities:

  • Cell Culture: Initiate culture, harvest cells, and prepare slides from various tissue types.
  • Chromosome Analysis: Perform chromosome imaging and karyotyping of cytogenetic specimens.
  • Summarize Test Results: Use ISCN nomenclature to summarize findings.
  • FISH Testing: Conduct FISH (fluorescent in situ hybridization) and aneuploidy testing.
  • Specimen Evaluation: Assess specimens for testing acceptability.
  • Technical Procedures: Execute routine and complex tests according to standard procedures.
  • Test Requisitions: Review test requisitions and gather relevant details for analysis.
  • Troubleshooting: Monitor and troubleshoot instruments for proper functionality.
  • Decision-Making: Make technical decisions about testing and problem-solving.
  • Reagent and Control Testing: Prepare and evaluate new reagents or controls.
  • Accurate Reporting: Report timely, accurate results for quality patient care.
  • Maintenance: Perform preventive maintenance and quality control documentation.
  • Supplies Management: Identify and restock testing supplies as needed.
  • Safety: Maintain a safe working environment and use appropriate protective equipment.

Requirements:

  • Education: B.A./B.S. in Biology, Chemistry, Cytogenetics Technology, or a related life science.
  • Experience: Previous relevant lab experience is preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Ability to work independently and in a team
    • Proficient in computer use; familiarity with laboratory information systems is a plus
    • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and communication
    • Flexibility for overtime or shift changes based on business needs
  • Additional:
    • Must pass a standardized color vision screen

Compensation:

  • Pay Range: $27.36 – $32.00/hour
