The Communications Specialist at the Port of Tacoma and Northwest Seaport Alliance (NWSA) is a proactive role focused on creating engaging digital content and managing key websites. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented and innovative communicator who is passionate about storytelling and improving digital experiences.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Content Creation: Develop and produce a wide range of content reflecting the Port's strategic initiatives for use in multiple channels, including websites, newsletters, and social media.
  • Website Management: Manage and update the websites of the Port of Tacoma and NWSA, ensuring they are user-friendly, visually appealing, and maintain brand consistency. Continuously improve content and usability while collaborating with IT for troubleshooting.
  • Digital Strategy: Monitor website performance using analytics tools and recommend strategies to improve user experience and audience engagement.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work with internal staff and subject matter experts to develop content specific to various programs and projects. Act as a liaison with external website vendors to stay updated on technology and content strategies.
  • Digital Asset Management: Maintain the digital archives, including the photo and video library, and assist with other communication tasks such as videography, events, and fact sheet production.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or related fields is required. In lieu of a degree, 4 additional years of relevant experience may be considered.
  • Experience: At least 2 years of experience in communications, marketing, or public relations within a corporate or government setting. The candidate must have experience managing websites, writing, editing, and creating video or multimedia content.
  • Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, organizational ability, time management, and the capability to collaborate across different departments. Experience with analytics tools, website management, and content creation for digital platforms is essential.
