Clinical Lab Technologist

The⠀Clinical⠀Lab⠀Technologist⠀will be⠀expected⠀to work 8⠀-10 hours⠀per week.⠀The⠀responsibilities⠀will⠀include⠀performing⠀specialized⠀technical⠀analyses⠀of blood⠀specimens⠀leading to⠀the⠀diagnosis⠀and⠀treatment⠀of⠀diseases,⠀using⠀independent⠀judgment⠀in the⠀performance⠀of⠀standard⠀operating⠀procedures⠀and⠀complex⠀instrumentation.⠀Responsibility⠀also⠀

involves⠀ensuring⠀the⠀receipt,⠀recording,⠀

routing,⠀and⠀labeling⠀of⠀specimens⠀and⠀communicating⠀test⠀results to⠀the⠀attending⠀physician.

Brief description of Duties:

• Correctly⠀logs all⠀patients⠀and⠀specimens.
• Log⠀specimen⠀collection⠀into⠀patient⠀records⠀within⠀EMR
• Print⠀lab orders⠀and⠀requisition⠀for blood⠀specimens⠀to be sent⠀to⠀reference⠀labs.
• Place⠀blood⠀specimen⠀tubes and⠀accompanying⠀requisition⠀into⠀reference⠀lab⠀transport⠀bags and⠀log them⠀into the⠀courier⠀log-book.
• Manually⠀load blood⠀specimen⠀tubes onto⠀the⠀analyzer⠀one by⠀one
• Making⠀blood⠀smears by⠀manual⠀3-step⠀reagent⠀method⠀(dipping⠀the slides⠀one by one⠀into the⠀reagents,⠀rinsing,⠀and⠀standing⠀them to⠀dry)
• Microscopic⠀analysis⠀of blood⠀smears for⠀the manual⠀differential⠀count, RBC⠀morphology,⠀and⠀platelet⠀estimates
• Centrifuge⠀loading⠀with⠀specimen⠀tubes and⠀operation
• Dispense⠀the serum⠀using a⠀transfer⠀pipette⠀into a⠀plastic⠀vial when⠀the test⠀requires⠀it
• Load⠀reagents⠀on the⠀analyzers
• Daily⠀check of⠀Quality⠀Control⠀values and⠀adjust if⠀out of⠀range by⠀repeat⠀analysis,⠀changing⠀reagents,⠀or other⠀troubleshooting⠀methods.

• B.S.⠀Medical⠀Technology
• At⠀least one⠀(7) year⠀of⠀clinical⠀laboratory⠀training⠀at an⠀accredited⠀lab
• Experience⠀with⠀operating⠀analyzers,⠀blood⠀smear⠀microscopy
• Experience⠀with EMR⠀software⠀(Onco/LabDaq)
• Must⠀have⠀experience⠀working in⠀Windows⠀and with⠀MS Office⠀software
• License⠀to⠀practice⠀as a⠀Clinical⠀Laboratory⠀Technologist⠀in the⠀State of⠀New York
