Responsibilities:
A day in the life of a Associate Dean, Division, Equity & Inclusion at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
  • Develops⠀strategies⠀with key⠀stakeholders⠀to⠀collaboratively⠀support⠀diversity,⠀equity and⠀inclusion⠀at the⠀Hackensack⠀Meridian⠀School of⠀Medicine⠀(HM⠀SOM).
  • Develops,⠀presents,⠀and⠀implements⠀diversity,⠀equity,⠀and⠀inclusion⠀policies,⠀goals, and⠀objectives;⠀ensures⠀consistency⠀of⠀implementation⠀of⠀administrative⠀and⠀academic⠀policies.
  • Supervises⠀and⠀develops⠀the DEI⠀staff and⠀manages⠀resources/⠀activities⠀of the⠀Office of⠀Diversity,⠀Equity,⠀and⠀Inclusion⠀(including,⠀but not⠀limited⠀to,⠀creating⠀and⠀implementing⠀Pipeline/Pathways,⠀or other⠀programs),
  • Advises⠀and⠀confers⠀with⠀staff,⠀within the⠀Office of⠀Diversity,⠀Equity,⠀and⠀Inclusion,⠀providing⠀technical⠀guidance⠀and⠀confidential⠀problem⠀resolution.
  • Advocates⠀and⠀champions⠀inclusive⠀excellence⠀by⠀integrating⠀diversity,⠀equity,⠀and⠀educational⠀quality⠀efforts⠀into the⠀HM SOM's⠀institutional⠀operations⠀for⠀long-term⠀sustainability.
  • Proactively⠀engages⠀with⠀students⠀and⠀faculty to⠀evaluate⠀trends and⠀identify⠀areas for⠀growth.
  • Develops⠀content⠀and⠀facilitates⠀diversity,⠀equity,⠀and⠀inclusion⠀workshops,⠀trainings⠀meetings,⠀seminars,⠀and⠀orientations⠀for⠀faculty,⠀staff, and⠀students.
  • In⠀collaboration⠀with the⠀Office of⠀Admissions⠀and the⠀Office of⠀Student⠀Affairs⠀and⠀Wellness,⠀collect⠀and⠀analyze⠀data on⠀student⠀recruitment,⠀retention,⠀and⠀support⠀programs -⠀recommend⠀changes as⠀appropriate.
  • Implements⠀strategies⠀and goals⠀of⠀diversity,⠀equity,⠀and⠀inclusion⠀by working⠀proactively,⠀strategically⠀and⠀collaboratively⠀with⠀stakeholders
  • Collaborates⠀with⠀relevant⠀offices,⠀committees,⠀and⠀stakeholders⠀to⠀develop,⠀administer,⠀and⠀analyze⠀data from⠀campus⠀climate⠀faculty⠀and⠀student⠀surveys,⠀institutional⠀reports,⠀or other⠀sources as⠀appropriate.
  • Collaborates⠀with the⠀Office of⠀Faculty to⠀develop⠀and⠀monitor⠀faculty⠀and⠀leadership⠀DEI⠀dashboards⠀to support⠀inclusive⠀excellence⠀across the⠀HM⠀SOM..
  • Conduct⠀professional⠀development⠀seminars⠀for staff⠀and⠀faculty.
  • Develops,⠀maintains,⠀and⠀presents⠀budget,⠀reports,⠀and⠀financial⠀projections⠀as⠀directed.
  • Explores⠀funding⠀opportunities;⠀writes and⠀applies⠀for grant⠀support or⠀other⠀funding as⠀appropriate⠀to develop⠀and⠀support⠀programs⠀and⠀services⠀to enhance⠀diversity,⠀equity,⠀and⠀inclusion.
  • Grant⠀preparation⠀and⠀application⠀by⠀providing⠀data and⠀information⠀about⠀diversity,⠀equity,⠀and⠀inclusion.
  • Serves⠀as Chair⠀of the DEI⠀Committee⠀of the HM⠀SOM and⠀convener⠀of the⠀Community⠀Advisory⠀Board of⠀the DEI⠀Committee.
  • In⠀collaboration⠀with the⠀Office for⠀Admissions,⠀engage in⠀promotional⠀activities⠀for the⠀medical⠀school,⠀such as⠀attending⠀recruiting⠀events.
  • Performs⠀other⠀related⠀duties as⠀assigned⠀by the⠀Associate⠀Dean of⠀Diversity,⠀Equity,⠀and⠀Inclusion.
  • Other⠀duties as⠀assigned.
  • Adheres⠀to the⠀standards⠀identified⠀in the⠀Medical⠀Center's⠀Organizational⠀Competencies.
Qualifications:
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
  • Terminal⠀degree⠀(MD, DO,⠀or⠀PhD).
  • Minimum⠀of 10⠀years of⠀experience⠀working⠀within the⠀DEI field⠀and/or in⠀program⠀development,⠀institutional⠀change,⠀community⠀engagement⠀or⠀adjacent⠀areas.⠀Must be a⠀skilled⠀communicator⠀and⠀collaborator⠀across⠀constituencies⠀and⠀stakeholders.
  • Extensive⠀knowledge⠀in the⠀field of⠀diversity⠀science,⠀including⠀an⠀understanding⠀of the⠀complex⠀histories,⠀expressions,⠀and needs⠀of⠀different⠀identities⠀and⠀communities,⠀unconscious⠀bias,⠀micro and⠀macro⠀aggressions,⠀social⠀justice,⠀cultural⠀humility,⠀intersectionality,⠀and how⠀corollary⠀systems of⠀discrimination⠀and⠀oppression-⠀racism,⠀sexism,⠀homophobia,⠀classism,⠀xenophobia,⠀ageism,⠀ableism -⠀mutually⠀reinforce⠀one⠀another.
  • Proven⠀ability to⠀provide⠀visionary⠀strategic⠀leadership,⠀including⠀setting⠀and⠀inspiring⠀an⠀inclusive⠀organizational⠀vision,⠀bringing⠀diverse⠀groups⠀together⠀for a⠀stronger⠀whole⠀while⠀addressing⠀needs and⠀goals of⠀subgroups.
  • Ability⠀to attract⠀a strong⠀team, and⠀to partner⠀with other⠀leaders,⠀guide the⠀implementation⠀of a⠀strategic⠀plan,⠀establish⠀metrics,⠀measure⠀progress,⠀and adapt⠀as⠀necessary⠀as the⠀organization⠀and⠀culture⠀evolve.
