The Assistant Wetland Scientist will support the completion of wetland assessments, delineations, vegetative studies, and mitigation monitoring for various environmental projects. This position will assist with field investigations, soil sampling, and data analysis in compliance with federal and state environmental regulations. The ideal candidate will help ensure that environmental deliverables are met for both large and small-scale projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Wetland Assessments & Delineations:
- Assist in conducting wetland assessments and delineations in line with federal and state environmental regulations.
Mitigation & Compliance Monitoring:
- Participate in annual wetland mitigation monitoring and post-construction compliance inspections.
Field Investigations:
- Help conduct habitat evaluations, endangered plant identification, and other field surveys.
Soil Sampling & Classification:
- Assist with soil sampling and classification as part of wetland studies.
Regulatory Approvals:
- Assist in gathering data and preparing applications for regulatory approvals, ensuring compliance with wetland-related laws.
Environmental Assessments & Permitting:
- Support the research and preparation of environmental assessments and permitting documents.
Data Collection & Reporting:
- Assist with data entry, analysis, and drafting of technical reports based on field data.
- Use GPS and GIS equipment to record and analyze data for various projects.
Stakeholder Presentations:
- Help present results from field investigations to stakeholders.
Safety Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with company and site safety policies during field activities.
Other Duties:
- Perform other duties as assigned related to environmental work.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Botany, Soil Science, or a related field from an accredited program.
- Prior internship or experience related to wetland delineations is preferred.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Basic knowledge of wetlands, aquatic resources, and regulatory requirements (Section 404, 401, and Section 10).
- Familiarity with erosion control and site restoration practices.
- Experience operating GPS and GIS equipment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.).
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
- Ability to work outdoors for extended hours, even under challenging weather conditions.
- Critical thinking skills, with the ability to work methodically and analytically.
Other Requirements:
- Must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to qualify for the company’s vehicle driving privileges.
- Minimum GPA of 3.0 preferred.
