Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Ph.D. or⠀Psy.D. (or⠀foreign⠀equivalent)⠀in⠀Clinical⠀or⠀Counseling⠀Psychology⠀from an⠀APA-accredited⠀program⠀including⠀an⠀APA-accredited⠀internship.⠀Three (3)⠀years of⠀full-time⠀professional⠀work⠀experience⠀providing⠀diagnostic⠀intakes,⠀psychotherapy,⠀emergency⠀assessment,⠀teaching,⠀and/or⠀supervision⠀in the⠀young⠀adult⠀population.⠀Possession⠀of an⠀active New⠀York state⠀license in⠀psychology⠀or an⠀active⠀out-of-state⠀license⠀with⠀eligibility⠀for NY⠀licensure⠀within six⠀months of⠀hire.⠀Experience⠀in mental⠀health⠀service⠀provision⠀with⠀underrepresented⠀student⠀populations.

Brief⠀Description⠀of⠀Duties:
The⠀Assistant⠀Director⠀of⠀Counseling⠀and⠀Psychological⠀Services⠀(CAPS) -⠀Inclusion⠀& Equity⠀Specialist⠀reports to⠀the⠀Executive⠀Director⠀of CAPS⠀and⠀provides⠀administrative⠀leadership⠀overseeing⠀approaches⠀to⠀supporting⠀and⠀providing⠀outstanding⠀clinical⠀care,⠀early⠀intervention,⠀and⠀outreach⠀services⠀to⠀historically⠀underserved⠀or⠀marginalized⠀students.
Work⠀internally⠀with CAPS⠀staff, and⠀with the⠀campus⠀community⠀at large,⠀through⠀consultation,⠀collaboration,⠀and⠀liaising⠀with⠀campus⠀partners⠀and⠀student⠀organizations⠀to develop⠀strategies⠀to best⠀support⠀the mental⠀well-being⠀of⠀students⠀from⠀diverse⠀backgrounds⠀and⠀identities.⠀The⠀incumbent⠀will⠀collaborate⠀with⠀various⠀campus⠀organizations⠀and⠀participate⠀in⠀initiatives⠀focused on⠀diversity,⠀equity,⠀and⠀inclusion.
Collaboration, Counseling and Crisis Management
- Oversee⠀and⠀coordinate⠀professional⠀development⠀and⠀training⠀initiatives⠀on⠀cultural⠀competency,⠀sensitivity,⠀and⠀inclusivity⠀for CAPS⠀staff and⠀trainees⠀to improve⠀services⠀provided⠀to⠀historically⠀underserved⠀student⠀groups.⠀Lead CAPS⠀social⠀justice⠀committee⠀with a⠀focus on⠀developing⠀staff⠀intercultural⠀competence⠀and⠀humility.
- Provide⠀mental⠀health⠀services⠀including,⠀but not⠀limited⠀to,⠀short-term⠀individual⠀treatment,⠀group⠀counseling,⠀crisis⠀intervention,⠀initial⠀consultation/triage,⠀clinical⠀consultation,⠀and⠀outreach.⠀Maintain⠀timely,⠀accurate⠀clinical⠀documentation⠀to meet⠀NY,⠀federal⠀(HIPAA),⠀accreditation⠀standards,⠀and CAPS⠀Chart⠀Audit⠀policies⠀and⠀procedures.
- Provide⠀staff⠀consultation⠀and⠀assessment⠀of clients⠀in acute⠀crisis for⠀voluntary⠀and⠀involuntary⠀hospitalizations.
- Provide⠀crisis⠀debriefing⠀and⠀post-vention⠀support to⠀the campus⠀community⠀when⠀necessary⠀and at⠀times⠀during⠀non-traditional⠀hours.
Supervision and Data Analysis
- Provide⠀clinical⠀and⠀administrative⠀supervision⠀to staff⠀members at⠀CAPS and⠀engage⠀them in⠀university-wide⠀efforts to⠀enhance⠀diversity⠀and build⠀an⠀inclusive⠀community.⠀They will⠀support⠀CAPS staff⠀to⠀implement⠀events,⠀programs,⠀and⠀activities⠀that⠀celebrate⠀and raise⠀awareness⠀about the⠀different⠀cultures⠀and⠀identities⠀of our⠀student⠀population.
- Provide⠀clinical⠀supervision⠀for⠀trainees⠀(interns⠀in an⠀APA-accredited⠀internship⠀program⠀and other⠀trainees⠀such as⠀psychology⠀practicum⠀students,⠀and social⠀work⠀interns).⠀Provide⠀leadership⠀at⠀Training⠀Committee⠀meetings⠀and⠀contribute⠀to efforts⠀to⠀maintain⠀and⠀improve⠀training⠀programs⠀at CAPS;⠀complete⠀evaluations⠀of⠀trainees⠀in a⠀timely⠀manner.
- Develop⠀and⠀implement⠀research⠀projects;⠀collect⠀and⠀analyze⠀data to⠀improve⠀services⠀focused on⠀the⠀intersectionality⠀of⠀cultural⠀diversity⠀and mental⠀health.
- Assist⠀in the⠀creation⠀of annual⠀reports⠀and other⠀accreditations⠀metrics as⠀required.
- Provide⠀co-leadership⠀with the⠀Executive⠀Director⠀to utilize⠀assessment⠀and data⠀in order⠀to make⠀decisions,⠀identify⠀systems⠀issues/gaps/inefficiencies,⠀and create⠀and⠀implement⠀effective⠀solutions⠀in⠀clinical⠀operations,⠀policies,⠀and⠀procedures⠀using an⠀equity⠀framework.
Professional Development and Committee Involvement
- Serve as a⠀member of⠀the⠀Center's⠀leadership⠀team and⠀provide⠀coverage⠀for the⠀Executive⠀Director⠀when⠀needed.
- Enhance⠀professional⠀skills by⠀participating⠀in⠀opportunities⠀that⠀promote⠀learning,⠀growth,⠀and⠀development⠀(e.g.,⠀classes,⠀training,⠀committee,⠀webinar,⠀etc.)
- Contribute⠀to the⠀Division⠀of Student⠀Affairs⠀and Stony⠀Brook⠀University⠀by⠀attending⠀and/or⠀supporting⠀events,⠀activities,⠀and⠀programs⠀sponsored⠀by areas⠀outside of⠀CAPS⠀(e.g.,⠀campus-wide⠀traditions,⠀events,⠀programs,⠀etc.).
- Other⠀duties or⠀projects⠀as⠀assigned⠀as⠀appropriate⠀to rank⠀and⠀departmental⠀mission.
