The Master⠀of⠀Communication⠀Management⠀(MCM)⠀program in⠀the⠀Annenberg⠀School for⠀Communication⠀and⠀Journalism,⠀University⠀of⠀Southern⠀California⠀seeks a⠀qualified⠀Adjunct⠀Lecturer⠀to⠀supplement⠀instruction⠀offered by⠀our⠀full-time⠀faculty,⠀specifically⠀to teach⠀CMGT 529:⠀Creator⠀Culture⠀and⠀Industries.⠀Whether⠀referred⠀to as⠀creators,⠀influencers,⠀YouTubers,⠀TikTokers,⠀games,⠀vloggers,⠀streamers,⠀wanghong,⠀KOLs, or⠀zhubo, a⠀wave of⠀new⠀cultural⠀entrepreneurs⠀have⠀emerged⠀globally⠀with the⠀ability to⠀harness⠀social⠀media⠀platforms⠀for⠀commercial⠀and⠀cultural⠀value.⠀They⠀operate⠀centrally⠀within two⠀new⠀cultural⠀industries,⠀Social⠀Media⠀Entertainment⠀(Cunningham⠀and Craig⠀2019) and⠀Wanghong⠀(Craig,⠀Lin, and⠀Cunningham,⠀2021) that⠀operate⠀with vast⠀distinction⠀from⠀legacy⠀media⠀industries,⠀film,⠀television,⠀publishing,⠀or music.⠀This⠀course⠀conducts⠀comparative⠀analysis⠀of both⠀creator⠀cultures⠀and⠀industries⠀in the⠀U.S. and⠀China and⠀maps the⠀emerging⠀competition⠀between⠀these in⠀the⠀digital⠀peripheries⠀outside of⠀the Global⠀North and⠀China.
Candidates⠀must have⠀experience⠀with a⠀major⠀technology⠀company,⠀social⠀platform⠀and/or⠀creator⠀management⠀service⠀firm. They⠀should⠀also be⠀expert⠀with the⠀managerial⠀practices⠀of creator⠀industries,⠀especially⠀managing⠀top⠀creators;⠀have some⠀familiarity⠀with the⠀frameworks⠀for⠀analyzing⠀creator⠀and⠀wanghong⠀culture;⠀able to⠀guide⠀student⠀research⠀in⠀evaluating⠀the macro⠀and⠀meso-level⠀practices⠀of these⠀industries⠀and⠀creators⠀at the⠀level of⠀the⠀global,⠀regional,⠀nation,⠀and⠀cultural-linguistic.⠀Prior⠀graduate⠀degrees in⠀media and⠀communication⠀and/or⠀teaching⠀experience⠀is⠀desirable.

The⠀hourly⠀range for⠀this⠀position⠀is $$36.37⠀- $45.46.⠀When⠀extending⠀an offer⠀of⠀employment,⠀the⠀University⠀of⠀Southern⠀California⠀considers⠀factors⠀such as⠀(but not⠀limited⠀to) the⠀scope and⠀responsibilities⠀of the⠀position,⠀the⠀candidate’s⠀work⠀experience,⠀education/training,⠀key⠀skills,⠀federal,⠀state and⠀local⠀laws,⠀contractual⠀stipulations,⠀as well as⠀external⠀market and⠀organizational⠀considerations.
USC⠀reserves⠀the⠀“Adjunct”⠀appointment⠀for⠀faculty⠀teaching⠀less than⠀full-time⠀at USC,⠀who are⠀employed⠀full-time⠀in a⠀primary⠀profession⠀or career⠀elsewhere.⠀Adjunct⠀faculty⠀typically⠀teach only⠀one course⠀per year,⠀but in⠀exceptional⠀cases, may⠀teach one⠀course per⠀semester,⠀if⠀approved⠀by the⠀dean.
